QuarkSpin is a performance originally selected by curator Laura Györik Costas for the PARTICULES ACCELEREES (accelerated particles) plastic arts exhibition which took place in Forum Meyrin from October 12th till November 3rd 2004, as part of the events celebrating the 50th anniversary of the European Center for Nuclear Research (CERN).

The initial creation of the performance took place on the evening of the exhibition’s “vernissage”. An extract was then visible during the complete duration of the exhibition.

The principle of Quarkspin is to use only the resources stemming from a bank of sounds captured by Vincent Hänni in one of the wells of the CERN’s future particle accelerator, one hundred metres underground.

Of this raw material came out QuarkSpin, where sounds captured in this improbable place collide.

Reworked by POL, they are organized to form music of the so-called neo-industrial kind, ranging from pure experimentation to dancefloor oriented rythms, where moments close to rapture suddenly leave space to explosions of sonic particles..
